Adams (NC-12) today introduced a resolution which is aimed at addressing and combating homelessness in America. The resolution calls on Congress to provide adequate funding for federal affordable housing programs. Homelessness is a pervasive problem in North Carolina and throughout our nation, said Congresswoman Adams. I introduced the resolution because Congress must support funding for our national housing programs. No American should be left out on the street. Its time for Congress to ensure our federal housing programs have funding to provide shelter for those in need, while they get back on their feet. According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, on any given night, more than half a million Americans are homeless. Of those that are homeless, more than 216,000 are families. According to Doorways for Women and Families, homeless children become sick and go hungry twice as often as other children. Homeless children are also four times more likely to have developmental delays and are twice as likely to have learning disabilities. More than 84,000 of people are considered chronically homeless and nearly 50,000 veterans are homeless. Congresswoman Adams resolution is calling on Congress to fully fund critical housing programs such as the Department of Housing and Urban Developments Section 8 Housing Voucher program, the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), the Home Investment Partnership Program (HOME,) and the National Housing Trust Fund. The resolution is cosponsored by Representatives Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), Alcee Hastings (D-FL), John Conyers (D-MI), Danny Davis (D-IL), Corrine Brown (D-FL), Cedric Richmond (D-LA), Raul M.
