http://alceehastings.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=356936 Hastings’ Statement on the Passing of Former Congressman Ike Skelton 2013-10-29 2013 2013-10 Democrat House FL Alcee Hastings H000324 alceehastings.house.gov     legacy Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) released the following statement on the passing of Congressman Ike Skelton, former Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee: “It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of my friend and former colleague Congressman Ike Skelton. For 34 years, Ike served the House of Representatives with distinction. He was a dyed-in-the-wool public servant, and his dedication to our nation’s security and prosperity rightfully earned him great respect across the aisle. “Ike was known as both a humble and selfless leader, who fought diligently for the men and women of our armed forces and everyday working Americans. He always put his constituents and the American people first, and as the Chairman of the Armed Services Committee, he dedicated himself to ensuring that our men and women in uniform received the support they needed both on and off the battlefield. “With Ike’s passing, we’ve lost a great advocate for the American people. I am deeply honored to have known him and to have called him my friend. My thoughts and prayers are with Patty, his children, family, and friends, and the people of Missouri during this time of sadness and loss.” Congressman Alcee L. Hastings serves as Senior Member of the House Rules Committee, Ranking Democratic Member of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and Co-Chairman of the Florida Delegation. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
