| http://alceehastings.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=361917 | Hastings Marks National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week | 2013-11-18 | 2013 | 2013-11 | Democrat | House | FL | Alcee Hastings | H000324 | alceehastings.house.gov | legacy | Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) released the following statement in commemoration of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week: “Each year, we set aside the week before the Thanksgiving to mark National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. This year’s theme, “Bringing America Home,” reflects both the progress we have made in reducing hunger and homelessness and also the work that remains to ensure every American access to the most basic human needs. “As a member of the Congressional Hunger Caucus and Co-Chair of the Congressional Homelessness Caucus, the issues of homelessness and hunger remain among my top priorities in Congress. I am particularly alarmed by the impact that recent and future reductions in funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will have on Americans living in poverty or without a home. Homeless and impoverished Americans already struggle to make ends meet on a day-to-day basis, and I believe that we have a moral obligation to do whatever we can to assist those in need. “I commend the hundreds of schools, organizations, non-profits, as well as community and faith groups that come together every year during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week to bring renewed attention to the goal of working to end hunger and homelessness in America. Together, we will continue to make progress in ensuring that all Americans have food to eat and permanent shelter over their heads.” Congressman Alcee L. Hastings serves as Senior Member of the House Rules Committee, Ranking Democratic Member of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and Co-Chairman of the Florida Delegation. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
