http://alceehastings.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=362597 Hastings Celebrates National Adoption Day 2013-11-23 2013 2013-11 Democrat House FL Alcee Hastings H000324 alceehastings.house.gov     legacy Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) released the following statement in honor of National Adoption Day: “Every year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, thousands of families across the country finalize the adoptions of children in the foster care system. Since 2000, nearly 40,000 adoptions have taken place on National Adoption Day, and this year, the National Adoption Day Coalition expects 4,500 children to be formally adopted by the end of the day. “Today, I am especially proud to honor the thousands of men and women that have provided loving homes for children in need, and the families that have been created as a result. For the thousands of children that are adopted each year, having the unconditional love and support of a family is a dream come true. “As a member of the Congressional Foster Youth Caucus, I am committed to the well-being and ultimate adoption of the more than 20,000 children in the foster care system in the State of Florida, and the more than 100,000 children waiting to be adopted in foster care systems across the country. Almost all of these children will wait for more than three and a half years to be adopted, and hundreds will age out of the foster care system before finding adoptive parents. We must do all that we can to give these children the support each and every one of them deserve.” Congressman Alcee L. Hastings serves as Senior Member of the House Rules Committee, Ranking Democratic Member of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and Co-Chairman of the Florida Delegation. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
