First Focus honors the top 100 Members of Congress every year for leadership on issues important to the education and development of our nation’s children. “I am proud to accept this year’s Defenders of Children award from the First Focus Campaign for Children. Issues affecting children are critical, and Congress must continue to act to reduce child poverty, improve children’s health and nutrition, and increase access to quality education. “No child should live without a home, and no child should live in fear of abuse or neglect. Every child deserves the opportunity to reach his or her full potential. As co-chair of the Congressional Homelessness Caucus and a member of the Congressional Foster Youth Caucus, as well as the Congressional Children's Caucus, I have made improving the well-being of our nation’s children one of my top priorities in Congress. “I will continue to advocate for our nation’s future generations, be it better schools, increased access to health services, or working towards putting an end to childhood and family homelessness once and for all.” Congressman Alcee L.
