Hastings (D-FL) introduced a resolution honoring Malala Yousafzai on receiving the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for her commitment to advancing gender equality in education (Legislation Attached):   “At age 17, and the youngest Nobel laureate in history, Malala Yousafzai has distinguished herself as a courageous and tireless activist for global equality in education despite being met with great adversity.  After surviving a 2012 assassination attempt by Taliban gunmen while on her way to school, she has emerged as a leading and outspoken advocate for gender equality in education. “To date, approximately 13 million school age girls in Ms. Yousafzai’s home country of Pakistan remain deprived of an education where girls’ schools continue to be targeted by militants.  This resolution not only celebrates Malala Yousafzai’s contributions to education equality and congratulates her on receiving the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize, but also reaffirms support for the safety and education of children all around the globe.”   Joining Congressman Hastings as original co-sponsors of the resolution are Representatives (13): James McGovern (D-MA), Corrine Brown (D-FL), Frederica S. Wilson (D-FL), Gregory Meeks (D-NY), Charles Rangel (D-NY), Steve Cohen (D-TN), Robert Scott (D-VA), Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), Lois Frankel (D-FL), Alan Lowenthal (D-CA), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), Curt Clawson (R-FL), and Kathy Castor (D-FL).   Congressman Alcee L. Hastings serves as Senior Member of the House Rules Committee, Ranking Democratic Member of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and Co-Chairman of the Florida Delegation.   ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
