Hastings (D-FL) introduced a resolution honoring Kailash Satyarthi on receiving the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for his contributions to the protection of children’s rights and the promotion of peace (Legislation Attached): “In his 34 years as a children’s rights advocate and social activist, Kailash Satyarthi has saved over 80,000 children from forced labor, has vigorously worked to call international attention to the scourge of same by spearheading global initiatives, and has been instrumental in launching local programs to teach trades to Indian youth and rescue girls sold into abusive forced marriages. His courageous and tireless efforts to combat child labor, forced servitude and human trafficking are deserving of recognition. “This resolution not only celebrates Kailash Satyarthi’s commitment to ending child labor and human trafficking around the globe and congratulates him on receiving the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize, but also emphasizes that violations of human rights in general, and the abuse of children specifically, are matters of legitimate concern to all nations.” Joining Hastings as original co-sponsors of the resolution are Representatives (8): James McGovern (D-MA), Corrine Brown (D-FL), Frederica S.
