Hastings (D-FL) released the following statement marking Veterans Day: The men and women of the United States Armed Forces exemplify the very best of our nation. As we mark Veterans Day, I am keenly aware of the pressing needs of those returning from conflicts abroad. Many face a long road to recovery from physical injuries, while others continue to struggle with injuries that lay below the surface. It is our duty as a nation to ensure that the men and women who selflessly serve our country receive the respect and support they so rightly deserve. This includes ensuring that our wounded warriors who suffer physical wounds, traumatic brain injury, or mental health illnesses such as PTSD receive the care and rehabilitation they need. Indeed, Florida has the second highest number of veterans in the United States, and this number continues to increase as our military personnel return home from war. We must work collaboratively to guarantee that our veterans maintain access to affordable housing and education, employment opportunities, healthcare and mental health services. This Congress, I have proudly cosponsored 46 pieces of legislation designed to address veterans issues, ranging from increasing the amount of federal leave a disabled veteran can take without loss or reduction in pay, to providing grants to carry out research for the advancement of prosthetic clinical care for members of the Armed Forces and veterans who have undergone amputation. And, on April 17, 2015, I introduced H. Res. 211, a resolution recognizing Americas homeless veterans. As co-founder and co-chair of the Congressional Homelessness Caucus and the Representative of Floridas 20th District, I will continue to prioritize these critical issues in Congress. As we celebrate Veterans Day, let us honor those men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Their courage and sacrifice have not only protected and advanced the freedoms of Americans, but peoples all around the world. Congressman Alcee L.
