Hastings (D-FL) released the following statement regarding the passage of the conference report to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA): There should be no question that access to education must be equal across America. Since 1965, the ESEA has been an essential tool for promoting fair and equal access to quality public education and helping to reduce educational disparities between students of all backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures, abilities, and beliefs. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) is a significant improvement to the status quo and a critical step in upholding and defending the principal of equal access to education, codified in Brown v. Board of Education. As we continue to work to improve education across America, we must ensure that regional and migrant populations do not suffer under revised allocation methods. We must also be mindful that funding for all minorities is kept at a level that does not put them at a disadvantage. Congressman Alcee L.
