Hastings (D-FL) made the following statement on President Donald John Trump's firing of Attorney General Jeff Sessions: President Trump's sudden dismissal of Attorney General Jeff Sessions is a thinly veiled attempt to undermine Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation. If the President fired Attorney General Sessions to in any way weaken the Mueller investigation, it would be an alarming abuse of power. No one in our country is above the law, and Congress must act swiftly to protect the Special Counsel, investigate the President's actions, and, if necessary, hold him accountable. Given his record objecting to the Mueller investigation, I call on Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker to immediately recuse himself from having any involvement in this investigation.
