Hastings (D-FL) made the following statement on last night's shooting at the Borderline Bar and Grill Dance Hall in Thousand Oaks, California: My heart sank this morning when I learned of last night's shooting in Thousand Oaks, California. It is with profound grief that I offer my condolences to the families that lost loved ones and prayers for the injured. I also join in paying tribute to Sergeant Ron Helus, who died in the line of duty while responding to this horrific event. First responders put their lives in danger every day to keep our communities safe and for that we owe them our gratitude. This is the fourth mass shooting to affect our country in just two weeks. As I have said before, we needlessly endure heartbreak after heartbreak as our public places become targets of violence. The truth of the matter is that the current Republican Congress has done nothing to stop the epidemic of gun violence raging across our nation. This must end now! Again and again, there have been calls for reforming our lax gun control laws, but such efforts have been routinely blocked by those who have placed the needs of the gun lobby over the interests of the American people. I look forward to joining with my colleagues in the 116th Congress to change course and make addressing gun violence a top priority. Congressman Alcee L.
