Join my email updates now so you don't miss any in the future! Happy Holidays! As we approach the end of 2015, I continue to be grateful for the privilege of serving you in Congress. And despite the name calling in Washington, I'm glad both parties came together and made crucial progress these past few weeks. For instance,last week both parties came together to pass a bipartisan government funding bill.This will keep our government open and makes critical investments in America's future. It includes permanent tax credits to help working families and small businesses, full funding for upgrades to Folsom Dam, and more support to fight prescription drug abuse. I was also pleased this bill includes my proposal to rollback a health insurance tax. This will save the average personmore than $200in insurance costs and seniors on Medicare Advantage plans willsave $350. In addition, earlier this monthI was proud to vote for a major bipartisan infrastructure bill.This is a long-term, five year bill that was widely supported by both parties. It will help ensure that we continue to rebuild our roads, bridges, and public transportation. Reinvesting in our infrastructure is critical to the economic growth of our area and creating good jobs. And as a former educator,Im pleased both parties passed a major education bill, the Every Student Succeeds Act.This new law eliminates the unworkable standards created by No Child Left Behind. It means more fairness and flexibility for both teachers and students while maintaining accountability. Instead of a one-size fits all approach, states and local school districts will be able to implement what they know works best.
