The conference committee is a select group of House and Senate members who will reconcile differences between education bills passed by both chambers earlier this year, and write a new law to replace No Child Left Behind. Since coming to Congress, Ive worked to strengthen our nations education policies because our economic future depends on providing students equal access to quality public education, said Congresswoman Bonamici. Im very encouraged to hear that congressional leaders from both sides of the aisle are coming together to get a bill to the Presidents desk by the end of the year. No Child Left Behind has limited teachers and frustrated students and parents. Its an honor to be named to the conference committee and have an opportunity to work on the final version of a law that will replace the one-size-fits-all mandates of No Child Left Behind. I am optimistic that my colleagues and I will find common ground to pass legislation that supports educators and emphasizes equity and opportunity for all students.
