November 12, 2015 Dear Friend, Indiana is the Crossroads of America. Our roads, bridges and highways not only help support our national economy, they support countless Hoosier jobs by transporting goods and services produced across our state. Thats why last week I supported a six-year federal highway bill that puts in place policies to improve our nations infrastructure and provide funds for Indianas roads.According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, nearly 65% of America's roads are rated as being in less than good condition and 25% of bridges need to be replaced. The Surface Transportation Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2015, will provide $325 billion over the next six years to pay for needed upgrades to our highway, rail, street and other important infrastructure projects.This legislation represents a true compromise between Democrats and Republicans and will provide the certainty needed to focus onrebuilding our roads, repairing our bridges and spurring job creation for all Hoosiers. As the Ranking Member of the Emergency Management Subcommittee, I am pleased that two of my amendments were included in the final bill. One improves the cost and delivery of emergency vehicles, the other corrects the Federal Aid-Highway Program to ensure economically distressed communities are prioritized. Now that theHouse has passed the bill, the Senate and House Conference Committeewill resolve differences between the two chambers sofinal legislation can beto sent to the President.
