Cartwright’s Statement on HUD’s Report on the Sherman Hills Complex 2013-11-21 2013 2013-11 Democrat House PA Matt Cartwright C001090 cartwright.house.gov     legacy Washington – Today, Congressman Matt Cartwright released the following statement regarding the inspection report on the Sherman Hills complex in Wilkes-Barre recently released by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development: “The report issued by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) on its September inspection of the Sherman Hills complex is disturbing. “The report’s details – including findings of non-functioning security camera systems, broken or blocked emergency doorways, the presence of mold, and other physical plant problems – represent serious personal safety concerns and relate to the broader public safety issues surrounding the complex for the city of Wilkes-Barre. “Sherman Hills has been the scene of violent and drug-related crimes, and the failure of the complex’s management to comply with HUD guidelines has undoubtedly contributed to the negative environment and must be dealt with immediately. “Today, I sent a letter to Shaun Donovan, the Secretary of HUD, urging the Department to continue to troubleshoot the situation at Sherman Hills and to require action on the problems revealed in the official review of the property.  Sherman Hills Realty, LLC must be held accountable for the safety of our community.” 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
