Additionally, the Bureau will provide OC Spray to staff in all of the designated positions at six medium security institutions: “I applaud the Bureau of Prisons for expanding the OC Spray Pilot Program, but there is still more work to be done to protect the men and women that work in our nation’s prisons. “In order to ensure greater safety, I introduced the Eric Williams Correctional Officer Protection Act of 2014 in May, a bill that would make the pepper spray program permanent, as well as expand pepper spray availability to medium and higher security facilities. “However, overcrowding and understaffing continue to plague our federal prisons. It is essential that we adequately fund the Bureau of Prisons to ensure that it can perform its mission to rehabilitate these individuals without compromising the safety of the many officers who put their lives at risk in achieving this goal.” | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
