The hearing, “Building a Network for Manufacturing Innovation,” examined the need for a manufacturing innovation network in our country. “I’m grateful to Dick Aubrecht for making the trip to Washington to testify today. His background and leadership at Moog, along with the company’s work with Erie Community College on manufacturing training programs, makes him uniquely qualified to speak on the need to build a network for manufacturing innovation,” said Congressman Collins. “Since coming to Congress, I have appreciated Dick’s help and knowledge in working to increase our manufacturing base in Western New York.” The hearing also reviewed the Revitalize American Manufacturing and Innovation Act of 2013 (H.R. 2996), legislation which would authorize the creation of a Network for Manufacturing Innovation Program. Collins is a co-sponsor of the bill. This program would improve American manufacturing competitiveness, stimulate innovation, facilitate the transition of novel technologies to commercialization; accelerate workforce development; and leverage non-federal capital. This bill also creates Centers for Manufacturing Innovation (CMI) to address challenges in advanced manufacturing and focus on manufacturing processes, new materials or technologies, and supply chain methodologies. “Manufacturing plays a vital role in our nation’s economy and in order to remain competitive, we must help provide our manufacturers with a skilled workforce and the resources to further innovation.
