During the telephone town hall meeting, the Congressman discussed a wide variety of issues including the recently-opened shopping period for affordable 2015 health insurance plans at HealthCare.gov, the start of construction at Harahan Bridge, his efforts to end efforts by Deep South state legislatures to dilute the voting rights and political power of African Americans, and the recent push by some in Congress to force President Obama to approve the environmentally-damaging Keystone XL pipeline. “These town hall meetings offer Memphians and all citizens of the Ninth District yet another way to speak directly with me and share what’s important to them,” said Congressman Cohen. “I appreciated having this opportunity to listen to the Ninth District’s perspective on the issues facing our city and enjoyed discussing my work and legislation with more than 7,250 Memphians. Hearing the perspective, opinions and ideas of my constituents helps me best represent the Ninth District in Congress.” The Telephone Town Hall meeting began at 6:30PM CT and lasted approximately one hour. More than 7,250 Ninth District constituents participated in the call and many asked questions about raising the minimum wage and the Congressman’s efforts to reduce recidivism rates by helping rehabilitated ex-offenders find jobs.
