During the telephone town hall meeting, the Congressman discussed a wide variety of issues including todays 50th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid, his work protecting Social Security and passing a long-term transportation bill, how federal programs help the Memphis economy grow and create jobs, and the role the first-ever Congressional apology for slavery and Jim Crow that he authored relates to recent efforts by President Obama and in Congress to make our criminal justice system fair for all Americans and restore Voting Rights Act protections. These town hall meetings offer Memphians and all citizens of the Ninth District yet another way to speak directly with me and share whats important to them, said Congressman Cohen. I appreciated having this opportunity to listen to the Ninth Districts perspective on the issues from Social Security to jobs as well as other issues facing our community. I also enjoyed discussing my work and legislation with more than 8,800 Memphians. Hearing the perspective, opinions and ideas of my constituents helps me best represent the Ninth District in Congress. The Telephone Town Hall meeting began at 10:00AM CT and lasted roughly one hour. More than 8,800 Ninth District constituents participated in the call.
