Tom Cole visits Stonewall 2013-11-14 2013 2013-11 Republican House OK Tom Cole C001053 cole.house.gov     legacy Ada News U.S. Rep. Tom Cole took time out of his busy schedule to visit Stonewall on Tuesday, November 5th.  Cole’s purpose was to tour the new community medical clinic that is nearing completion and is expected to begin receiving patients in January 2014.  Construction on the facility began in April 2013 under a contract with MacHill Tribal Construction, LLC of Ada. Cole was instrumental in helping Stonewall secure more than $890,000 in total grant funding to accomplish the project that was 8 years in the making.  Pontotoc County District 3 provided nearly $30,000 in demolition work on the project, and Jack Blair provided a cash donation of $25,000.  What makes the project unique is that the town is bringing its historic bank building back to life in order to house the clinic.  Since the building has garnered keen interest from the State Historic Preservation Office in Oklahoma City, much of the construction has to restore the building’s original appearance and character.  Don Childers, with Redland-Childers Architects, is overseeing the project’s technical requirements, while Stonewall’s city administrator, Dennis Heath is providing project oversight. Members of the community are excited at the transformation of the old building that was twice robbed by Pretty Boy Floyd in April and June of 1932.  Stonewall mayor Jim Mills added that he is so appreciative that something so meaningful as medical care was coming to the community.  “We are so thankful and appreciate your support of this project Congressman Cole,” Mills said. Central Oklahoma Family Medical Center CEO, Brenda Ware, was on hand and told Cole that she and her staff are looking forward to the opportunity to bring quality and affordable medical care to Stonewall.
