The legislation extends for another 10 years sanctions against foreign companies investing in Iran’s energy sector and technology related to weapons of mass destruction. It ensures Congress is able to maintain pressure on Iran as the United States continues to abide by the Iran Nuclear Deal. While this legislation does not impose any new sanctions on Iran, it provides for the “snapback” of sanctions, should Iran violate the nuclear agreement. It passed the Senate by a 99 - 0 vote and the House of Representatives by a 419 – 1 vote. “I am pleased this legislation is now law, despite President Obama’s true allegiance. Near unanimous votes by the House and Senate weren’t convincing enough for the President to back the obvious will of the majority of Americans. His refusal to sign this bill sends a clear message that he is unwilling to stand up to our enemies -- just like those Senate Democrats who refused to support the House in blocking the Iran Deal in the first place.
