The grants were allocated under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act's $5 billion supplemental funding for the Community Development Block Grant Program. This final tranche is intended to provide temporary financial assistance for up to 6 months to individuals unable to meet rental obligations due to COVID-19. HUD has targeted funding to assist communities most impacted by evictions resulting from significant rates of COVID-19 related unemployment. Communities across the Thirteenth District have borne the economic brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic, said Congressman Scott. From Marietta to Henry County, I am pleased our local communities will receive this crucial funding to help families, first responders, frontline health workers and small businesses during this challenging time. When the CARES Act was passed in March, we were operating under the belief that this funding would be sent to assist in reviving local communities in the wake of the pandemic, not keeping our communities afloat as the pandemic has continued raging many months later. This federal assistance must be supplemented with swift action by Congress to provide additional funding.
