Washington McCoy. A few years later, Richard L. Haynes was born. This weekend, the band will mark the hall's centennial during this year's band fair. But last week, U.S. Rep. John Delaney, D-6th, dropped by to pay tribute to the band and its century-old hall — and to Haynes, who served as the band's director for 44 years and still plays in the trumpet section at age 92. "Any organization that's been serving a community for as long as you have deserves tremendous recognition," Delaney told assembled band members and fans, "because it really is organizations like your band, like so many other community-based organizations, that keep communities together — give communities a sense of pride, create opportunities to engage their community, get to know each other and have fun, and remind us what's so great about our country."
