Dr. John B. “Mike” Loudon of First Presbyterian Church in Lakeland gave the opening prayer today before the U.S. House of Representatives session in Washington, D.C. Loudon was sponsored by U.S. Rep. Dennis Ross, R-Lakeland. Members of Congress are allowed to sponsor a guest chaplain from their district once every two-year term. He has been pastor of First Presbyterian, which is located on Lake Hollingsworth Drive, since 1999. Loudon is a native of western Pennsylvania, and a graduate of Westminster College (PA), Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and McCormick Theological Seminary. He prayed for guidance to empower the Congress and the nation to live in balance and conviction and quoted from a prayer by President Harry S.
