Dennis A. Ross (FL-15), Senior Deputy Majority Whip, released the following statement after voting to pass the FY2016 Omnibus Appropriations bill: As a Member of Congress, providing for our national defense and the safety of our citizens is my highest priority. Today, I voted in favor of the Omnibus funding measure that increases funding for our military and our homeland security because we are at war with radical Islamic extremists both at home and abroad. This legislation increases funding for our military to ensure our troops can swiftly confront todays challenges, aggressively combat and defeat ISIS, and carry out crucial counterterrorism programs. This bill also fully funds the pay for our brave men and women in uniform and increases funding for our honorable Veterans by nearly 10 percent. This bill further strengthens our national security by tightening requirements under our Visa Waiver Program to combat potential threats to our homeland, as well as prohibits the transfer of terrorist detainees from Guantanamo Bay to the U.S. This bill also increases funding by $11 billion to secure our borders. Additionally, this Omnibus funding package contains a number of important conservative priorities, including lifting the governments 40-year-old ban on crude oil exports. This will create jobs here at home and shift energy dependence of emerging democracies away from bad actors like Russia and Iran. Furthermore, the citrus industry, which is vital to the economy and heritage of the State of Florida, will receive $7.5 million to address and combat the damaging effects of citrus greening. This bill also repeals the excessively burdensome Country of Origin Labeling requirements to prevent billions of dollars in retaliatory tariffs on U.S. and Florida goods and crops. This year-long appropriations bill, while not perfect, provides for the defense of our nation and implements important conservative policies that enhance our national security and help grow our economy. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
