http://donyoung.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=364504 Congressman Young Introduces Bill to Encourage Wild Game Donation to Food-based Charities 2013-12-13 2013 2013-12 Republican House AK Don Young Y000033 donyoung.house.gov     legacy Washington, D.C. - In an effort to fight chronic hunger in Alaska and across the country, yesterday Alaskan Congressman Don Young reintroduced H.R. 3728, the Wild Game Donation Act of 2013. The bipartisan legislation will provide hunters with charitable deductions for the costs associated with donating processed moose, caribou, and other wild game meat to food-based charities. In addition to providing tax relief for hunters, this legislation will also provide tax relief for game processors participating in the program, which would allow processors to pass savings on to local food banks.   “In a state like Alaska, with a great abundance of natural resources and wildlife, it’s a shame that people still go hungry,” said Congressman Don Young. “The Food Bank of Alaska tells me that more than 106,000 Alaskans don’t know where their next meal is coming from, and I have a real problem with that. My bill will begin to help solve some of these hunger problems while also providing an economic incentive for hunters to donate their game. I’ve already received bipartisan support from across the country and look forward to filling the freezers of our food-based charities.”   FOR FULL BILL TEXT OF H.R. 3728, THE WILD GAME DONATION ACT CLICK HERE Feeding America, the Food Bank of Alaska’s national partner, estimates that one in six Americans and nearly 15.9 million children live in food insecure households. In fact, an estimated 3.1 million rural households are food insecure.  Currently, food banks across the country struggle to keep up with the increasing demand for food. Last year, 37 million Americans or roughly one-eighth of the population, required help from food banks. Hunters across the U.S are ready to do their part and donate their wild game meat to help feed the hungry. H.R. 3728 requires all animals be killed in accordance with state and local laws and by the individual making the charitable contribution. The Wild Game Donation Act has received support from Feeding America, the National Rifle Association, and the Safari Club International. Upon introduction by Congressman Don Young and Ann Kuster (D-NH), this bill has the bipartisan support of 11 other original cosponsors including Representatives Dan Benishek (R-MI), Tom Cole (R-OK), Phil Gingrey (R-GA), Michael Grimm (R-NY), Ron Kind (D-WI), Dough LaMalfa ( R-CA), David Loebsack (D-IA), Mike McIntyre (D-NC), Colin Peterson (D-MN), Ted Poe R-TX), and Timothy Walz (D-MN). ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
