Alaska Congressman Don Young today shared the following statement in response to the Presidents address to the nation: Last night, the President gathered the nation to discuss ongoing security threats and counterterrorism efforts. What should have been a demonstration of leadership and strength, including a strategic and comprehensive plan to defeat radical Islamic terrorism and ensure the safety of Americans, was nothing more than the same failed policies that continue to underestimate our global enemies. For months, Congress and the American people have called upon the President to develop a comprehensive strategy to weaken, deter and eliminate ISIS. Yet, while our global enemies grow spreading fear and destruction, our President seems more concerned with defending his pitiful attempt at foreign policy and attacking the rights of millions of law abiding citizens. Americans deserve a commander-in-chief committed to building solutions to defeat ISIS. Until he can provide that leadership, his calls for Congress to pass an Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) which ties the hands of our military men and women is both disingenuous and insincere. I remain committed to protecting the safety and security of our citizens.
