Alaska Congressman Don Young today shared the following message after House passage of H.R. 158, the Visa Waiver Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act: The strength and security of our nation is paramount, including our ability to prevent foreign enemies from entering our country. Today, the House voted to reinforce our Visa Waiver Program and close massive national security holes in our already dismal immigration system. This bill, which overwhelmingly passed 407 to 19, ensures Visa Waiver countries share critical intelligence and counter-terrorism information to better equip ourselves when identifying those wishing to cause harm. By enhancing screening and background checks, we also close gaps in our global travel system identified by U.S. intelligence. And to prevent global terrorists from penetrating U.S. soil, this bill denies Visa Waiver status to those who have visited terrorist hotspots.
