Today,Alaska Congressman Don Youngannounced that the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded $599,053 to the Bering Sea Fishermen's Association. This funding will assist in the rollout of the Alaska Ocean Cluster, an initiative to foster innovation in Alaska's ocean economy through a platform that engages existing industry members, entrepreneurs, investors, and government agencies. "Alaska's seafood industry is central to our state's culture and way of life. Our fishermen and processors work day in and day out to move our seafood to market, but in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, they are facing more challenges than ever before,"said Congressman Don Young. "Getting our fishing sector onto solid footing will require tremendous collaboration and innovation. TheAlaska Ocean Clusterrepresents tremendous economic potential for our fishermen. I am grateful to the Bering Sea Fishermen's Association for thinking outside the box and bringing industry and business leaders together, in collaboration with government entities, to strengthen our seafood industry by finding new economic opportunities. Alaska is home to tremendous natural resources and vast fishing expertise, and the Blue Pipeline Venture Studio is an exciting initiative that will help grow our economy. The funding announced by the Economic Development Administration is welcome news for the Alaskan families who make their living on the water, and I am grateful to the Department of Commerce for making these crucial investments in our state. In this process, the cluster supports both the industry and fellow mariners through economic transactions and shared assets.
