In addition, the resolution would recognize the positive economic impact of 3D printing in the United States and encourage the promotion and celebration of 3D printing technology. “Advancements in 3D printing technology provide a vital opportunity for businesses and entrepreneurs to compete in the modern economy and bring new products to life,” Foster said. “From bio-technology, to food production, to advanced manufacturing, the 3D printing industry continues to grow in communities across this country, and the possibilities for innovation could be endless.” “What used to be only available to universities and large corporations is now in our libraries, schools, and homes,” Takano said. “Hobbyists and professionals alike are printing everything from airplane parts to cheap prosthetics, and the potential for 3D printing has only grown as more people gain access to the technology. 3D Printing Day is a time to celebrate how far the technology has come and imagine what we’ll be able to use it for in the future.” By enabling rapid production of innovative products, 3D printing has the potential to create thousands of new businesses and jobs in the U.S. and give domestic companies an edge in global markets. The Department of Energy estimates that 3D printing could save 50% on energy costs compared to more traditional manufacturing processes.
