Every year, Argonne spends approximately $3.8 million to maintain and house nuclear waste. The language championed by Foster would instruct the Department of Energy to provide additional funding to sites with small amounts of nuclear waste, like Argonne, to allow them to properly dispose of such waste. Eliminating this waste would save Argonne $3.8 million every year, allowing them to better use the funds for other priorities, including research and staff.
