Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., presented the medals to the family of Willis Tom Bradshaw at Foxx's office in Clemmons. Bradshaw served as a Seaman Second Class in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He was killed in action in 1942 when the USS Juneau sunk during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal. Bradshaw's daughter, Bonnie Ford of Clemmons, received his medals for him. Bradshaw received the WWII Victory Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Pin and a Purple Heart, a medal given to military members killed or wounded by enemy action. Ford's son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter accompanied her to the ceremony. "It was a privilege to assist the Ford family in obtaining these medals," Rep. Foxx said in a news release. "As a country, we are uniquely blessed. We live in a nation where each one of us has the opportunity for nearly limitless fulfillment and prosperity in the world's finest democracy. That freedom and opportunity has been made available to us because of sacrifices of people like Willis Tom Bradshaw."
