http://franken.senate.gov/?p=press_release&id=3316 Sen. Franken Highlights Innovative Solutions in Minnesotas Rural Communities to Mark National Rural Health Day 2015-11-19 2015 2015-11 Democrat House MN Al Franken F000457 franken.senate.gov     legacy Today, to mark National Rural Health Day, U.S. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.)who serves as Co-Chair of the bipartisan Senate Rural Health Caucusstressed the importance of finding solutions to the unique challenges rural communities face in delivering health care, and pointed to Minnesota as a leader when it comes to finding creative and effective solutions to these problems.Sen. Franken has worked hard to improve rural health care delivery since joining the Senate in 2009. Over the past year, Sen. Franken and his staff held 28 rural health roundtables across Minnesota to learn from community stakeholders about the particular challenges they face when providing health care services to the more than 1.2 million Minnesotans who live in rural communities. This effort culminated in a report, which describes these problems as well as the innovative steps communities are taking to ensure that residents get the health services they need. You can download a copy of the report here."The simple fact is that rural health is a very important issue in Minnesota, and it's critical that we continue to work on solving the unique challenges our rural communities face." Sen. Franken said. "That's why I decided to launch a Rural Health Tour across our state. Again and again, community stakeholders raised concerns about workforce shortages and access barriers, including the availability of services, transportation, and broadband."And while I've learned more about these problems, I've also seen the innovative strategies rural Minnesotans have adopted to improve their health care systems-efforts that are a testament to why Minnesota has long been a leader in pioneering ways to deliver health care more efficiently and more effectively. National Rural Health Day serves as an important reminder that we need to address the multifaceted challenges that our rural communities face, and I look forward to working with stakeholders in Minnesota and my colleagues in the Senate Rural Health Caucus to continue these important efforts." ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
