http://grijalva.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=13&itemid=2226 Grijalva Praises Proposal for Federal Title I Education Funds 2016-09-01 2016 2016-09 Democrat House AZ Raúl Grijalva G000551 grijalva.house.gov     legacy TUCSON – Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ) reacted today to the proposed regulations announced by the Department of Education ensuring federal funds provided through Title I of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), must supplement – and may not supplant – state and local funds. “I am glad to see the Department of Education proposing a regulation to ensure Title I funds will be used to supplement state and local funds in public education,” Rep. Grijalva said. “Recent data from the United States Census Bureau shows Arizona spending less than $8,000 per student in state funds towards their public schools. It is a sad indictment that too often, we provide so little for the education of children who are so much in need. The ESSA has tremendous potential to help our kids learn, but its success is dependent on how well each state implements it. We must stop short-changing our children’s futures, and that starts by implementing Supplement-not-Supplant rule proposed this week.” ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
