http://grijalva.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=13&itemid=2239 Grijalva Announces $2M in Grants Promoting Diversity in Education 2016-09-27 2016 2016-09 Democrat House AZ Raúl Grijalva G000551 grijalva.house.gov     legacy TUCSON – Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ) today announced nearly $2 million in grants from the Department of Education’s Hispanic-Serving Institutions STEM Program that have been awarded to the Yuma/La Paz Counties Community College District and the Pima County Community College District – East Campus. The funds, which will help both institutions develop and carry out activities to improve and expand the institution’s capacity to serve Hispanic and other low-income students, are budgeted from October 2016 through September 2017. Both grants are anticipated to extend for 5 years, which would bring considerably more funding in the years to come. “I am pleased to see the Department of Education recognize the good work that both of these school districts are doing by providing growth opportunities and professional development to students who otherwise would have neither,” Rep. Grijalva said. “Education is the single greatest avenue to upward mobility in our society, but only for those with access to it. We must ensure equal opportunity in our schools so the next generation of leaders is every bit as diverse as the American people.”  ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
