As we reflect on 2014 and look ahead to 2015, it may be easy to get lost in the trials and tribulations of our day-to-day lives. We must keep in mind that, as Americans, we have much to be grateful for this holiday season. But first and foremost, we must remember the reason for a celebration such as Christmas – the birth of Jesus Christ. Luke’s account of how the birth of Christ was announced to shepherds in the field that special night is familiar to so many of us: ‘And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.’ As we gather with our families and pray for our men and women in uniform both at home and abroad, we are reminded that the light Jesus brought to the world is needed now more than ever. My wish this Christmas is that this light shines upon you and our brave troops around the world, bringing you comfort and peace while bringing them home quickly and safely.
