http://hultgren.house.gov/newsroom/press-releases/hultgren-statement-on-paris-attacks-international-refugees Hultgren Statement on Paris Attacks, International Refugees 2015-11-16 2015 2015-11 Republican House IL Randy Hultgren H001059 hultgren.house.gov     legacy Washington, DC U.S. Representative Randy Hultgren (IL-14) today released the following statement on the terrorist attacks that claimed 129 lives in Paris: With great sadness and horror Americans watched as terrorists attacked the people of Paris, apparently at the behest of the Islamic State (ISIS). Those who planned and carried out these attacks have used senseless violence to further their medieval aims. All who were involved will be hunted down and brought to justice. The French people are resilient and some of our oldest allies. The people of Illinois and the nation stand with them and offer up our prayers for comfort and peace amidst such tragedy. These events highlight the broader global discussion about conflicts in the Middle East and how the West should respond to the resulting refugee crisis. At a recent hearing at the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (Helsinki Commission), I joined my fellow commissioners in pressing administration officials to ensure they are putting the safety and security of the American people first when determining which refugees can come to our shores. It is absolutely clear many innocent people are fleeing horrific conflicts, in many cases instigated by the same people who carried out these attacks. There is well-documented evidence that the Islamic State is targeting religious minorities including Yazidis and Christians for extermination in the Middle East. We have not and cannot turn a blind eye to their plight. Governor Rauner has temporarily suspended Illinois accepting refugees from Syria out of a necessary abundance of caution. Unfortunately, terrorists come from all overthe diversity of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay is a testament to the breadth of countries from which they originate. I will be working closely with our federal agencies to ensure our state is protected from additional attacks. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
