More than 6,100 students competed at the June event which assessed student mastery of technical, academic and employability skills through hands-on occupational and leadership contests. These skills will help ensure America has a skilled workforce that is college- and career-ready. According to the U.S. Department of Education, students who take three or more CTE programs in high school are more likely to attend college and stay there to graduate. “I congratulate our students from Illinois and the 14th District who demonstrated the importance of having an educated and skilled workforce that can meet the demands of the 21st century job market. College technical education is key to ensuring we have a steady stream of graduates who can seize job opportunities in fields like advanced manufacturing, medicine, architecture and construction, information technology, and much more,” Rep. Hultgren said. “I am proud of the accomplished students we have in the 14th District and look forward to seeing their careers progress as they take their knowledge and skills and apply them to their next stage in life. We should continue to support CTE programs and promote their value to our students and employers.” Top student winners received gold, silver and bronze medallions. Many others received additional prizes such as scholarships to further their careers and education. Gold medal winners from the 14th District include: Jose Martinez-Joya, Sugar Grove, IL Fernando Ortiz II, Gurnee, IL Michael  Wang, Naperville, IL Steven Leung, Naperville, IL Yaseen Saleh, Naperville, IL Mori Suzuki, Naperville, IL Eashan Iyengar, Naperville, IL Rep. Hultgren is a cosponsor of H.R. 4425, the Perkins Modernization Act of 2014, a bill that better connects future employees and adults reentering the workforce with the demands of an ever-evolving labor market. The bill would replace language so community colleges, comprehensive high schools, technical schools and community-based organizations can align their CTE programs with local workforce needs and prepare workers making a transition to a new industry or skill set for the jobs of both today and tomorrow. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
