Our universities and colleges need to know what industry needs in order to provide valuable research and train workers. By providing needed direction to the administration for regional hubs of innovation, like northern Illinois, the bill brings together our country’s vast research capabilities to help align our public and private institutions,” said Rep. Hultgren. “By reauthorizing the Regional Innovation Program, this bill allows local regions to pool their resources and work together in ‘industry clusters.’ Giving preference to local Workforce Investment Boards, which are working to find jobs and opportunities for my constituents, ensures taxpayer dollars are not wasted. I’m pleased the House supported this bill across the aisle.” In a letter of support for H.R. 2996, the University of Illinois wrote: “While Illinois is already home to Boeing, GE, Caterpillar, Deere & Co., and many other leading manufacturers, developing new manufacturing capabilities is vital to our future prosperity…the RAMI Act would help create more institutes that would leverage industry, government and academic resources to help ensure that the small and large manufacturers in Illinois and beyond remain globally competitive.” RAMI would direct the Secretary of Commerce to support the establishment of public-private partnerships between industry, academia, and other relevant entities across the country. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
