Jeff Duncan comments on passage of FY17 NDAA | 2016-12-02 | 2016 | 2016-12 | Republican | House | SC | Jeffrey Duncan | D000615 | jeffduncan.house.gov | legacy | Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jeff Duncan released the following statement after the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act for FY17: “Today, the House passed the National Defense Authorization Act for FY17 by a vote of 375-34. The United States Constitution is clear in its mandate that the fundamental role of the federal government is to provide for the common defense, and I was pleased to vote for this legislation as it halts the President’s cuts to our Armed Forces and continues the prohibition on using funds to transfer detainees held at Guantanamo Bay to the United States. “No state should be a terrorist dumping ground, and I have worked hard to prevent the President from breaking the law and moving terrorists to our soil, endangering the lives of American citizen, including introducing legislation to authorize the Speaker to sue the President should he attempt to violate the prohibitions in place. I am pleased that Congress heeded these reservations, despite the President’s intent to move terrorists to the U.S., and left these provisions in place in this year’s authorization bill.” ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
