The virtual conversation focused on NASA's Artemis program, which aims to land the first woman and next man on the Moon in 2024. Students from both participating schools asked a range of questions, many of which focused on Dr. Barratt's personal experience in space, his career path, and how NASA is studying the effects of space on the human body. It was an honor to talk to a Camas native, NASA astronaut Dr. Michael Barratt, and connect him with Southwest Washington students to share about our space program, Congresswoman Herrera Beutler said. I believe we sparked interest in more than a few students to consider how they too can one day explore space, and maybe walk on the moon or Mars. With the right STEM skills and hard work, they now know that the sky doesn't have to be the limit. Inspiring the Artemis Generation to pursue STEM careers is crucial to cultivate the talent America needs to succeed in sending human explorers to deep space, NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said. To further NASA's mission, we want to engage students and show them they can be part of the Artemis Program to go forward to the Moon in preparation for Mars.
