Jones (NC-3) cosponsored three measures that would restore military retiree benefits that were reduced by the recently passed "Ryan-Murray" Bipartisan Budget Act of 2013. Two of the bills supported by Congressman Jones would repeal the benefit cuts entirely (H.R. 3790 and H.R. 3788), with one of the bills offsetting the cost by closing a tax loophole for illegal immigrants. The third piece of legislation (H.R. 3789) would exempt medically retired service members and surviving spouses from the Ryan-Murray budget's reduction to military retirees’ annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). “After all of the sacrifices that our service members and their families have made for us, it is egregious that we would consider cutting the retiree benefits they have rightfully earned through years of selfless service to our country,” said Congressman Jones. “We cannot break faith with our men and women in uniform in this manner.” Because of the cuts to military retiree benefits, among many other reasons, Congressman Jones voted against the Bipartisan Budget Act when it was considered in the House last week. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
