Today, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) voted against the Conference Report to H.R. 22, the Fixing Americas Surface Transportation (FAST) Act. The 1,000-page bill includes a five-year, $305 billion reauthorization for federal highway and transit programs. The bill would also reauthorize the unrelated Export-Import Bank (Ex-Im), which expired in June. The measure passed the House on a vote of 359 to 65, and now goes to President Obama for his signature. Not only did Congress reauthorize Ex-Im, which puts U.S. taxpayers on the hook for future bailouts when foreign companies cant pay their bills, it made no substantive changes to the insolvent Highway Trust Fund to ensure it will be sustainable in the long run, said Congressman Jones.
