Jones (NC-3) again implored President Barack Obama to oppose the Bilateral Security Agreement that is currently being discussed between the United States and Afghanistan. In a letter to the president, Congressman Jones expressed his opposition to the terms of the agreement, which obligates the United States to continue to send aid to Afghanistan and retain a troop presence for at least 10 years beyond 2014. “After 12 years, billions of dollars, and President Karzai’s continued disrespect for the United States, many in the House and Senate believe it is time to end our commitment to Afghanistan,” the letter reads. “However, despite the risks involved, the agreement will not be brought before Congress for a vote.
