http://jones.house.gov/press-release/jones-continues-push-flood-insurance-rate-reform JONES CONTINUES TO PUSH FOR FLOOD INSURANCE RATE REFORM 2013-11-20 2013 2013-11 Republican House NC Walter Jones J000255 jones.house.gov     legacy WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) continued his push to bring relief to Eastern North Carolina homeowners suffering skyrocketing flood insurance rates under last year’s Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act, which significantly altered the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and is causing large rate increases.  In a letter to Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling and Ranking Member Maxine Waters, Congressman Jones emphasized the need to quickly move flood insurance reform legislation through the committee and to the House floor. In addition, Congressman Jones yesterday attended a hearing of the Housing and Insurance Subcommittee of the Financial Services Committee regarding the implementation of Biggert-Waters.  He has supported numerous efforts to delay the implementation of the rate increases until the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) completes a previously-mandated affordability study and adjustments are made to the Biggert-Waters legislation to ensure that flood insurance remains affordable.  “Eastern North Carolinians are looking for solutions to their rising flood insurance costs, and ensuring that reform legislation makes its way quickly through committee and to the House floor for a vote is the first step in bringing homeowners the relief they need,” said Congressman Jones.  “I was pleased to see the Housing and Insurance Subcommittee take the initiative to hold a hearing on the implementation of Biggert-Waters, and I will continue to work toward a solution that allows both the NFIP to remain financially sustainable and flood insurance to remain affordable.” 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
