Currently, claimants who worked at Texas Instruments have experienced difficulty completing their applications for the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program (EEOICP) by the Department of Labor’s 60-day deadline while they wait for SSA to locate their employment records.   “America’s former nuclear workers put their health at risk in service to their nation,” wrote Congressman Kennedy. “Today, we must repay their service by providing the benefits they have earned in a timely manner. Therefore, I respectfully request that the Social Security Administration develop an expedited process for locating employment history documentation for individuals applying to the EEOICP.”   At the beginning of this year, local news reports shed light on the alarmingly high rate of cancer amongst former employees of TI’s Attleboro plant, which took part in the country’s mid-century nuclear development. The reports highlighted the fact that not enough outreach had been done to ensure those impacted recognize that they may be eligible for benefits. In response to those reports, Congressman Kennedy questioned TI CEO Richard Templeton about their outreach efforts at a hearing for the House Committee on Science and Technology in February in Washington, DC.
