Representative Ann McLane Kuster (NH-02), along with her colleagues Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL-27), Gus Bilirakis (FL-12), Alcee L. Hastings (FL-20), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-23), Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24), and Ted Deutch (FL-21) introduced the resolution. James Foley, a New Hampshire native, and Steven Sotloff, a Florida native and graduate of Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, NH, were working in Syria when they were brutally murdered by the terrorist organization. The resolution recognizes the substantial achievements Foley and Sotloff made “through their courageous reporting of events in Libya, Syria and elsewhere,” and calls on ISIL to release all other hostages. “Our resolution expresses the condolences of the House of Representatives to the families of James Foley and Steven Sotloff, and condemns the terrorist acts of ISIL.
