The Berlin Fire Department will use the funding to hire four firefighters and cover their salaries for two years. Since taking office, Congresswoman Kuster has sent several letters to top administrators at the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) in support of Berlins application for SAFER grant funding. New Hampshires first responders put themselves in harms way on a daily basis to protect our families and communities, said Kuster. It is our responsibility to ensure fire departments across the Granite State have the resources to fully perform their duties, and I was proud to advocate for the Berlin Fire Departments application for this SAFER grant. I congratulate Berlin on this grant award and thank the dedicated men and women who keep our state safe from harm and destruction. The SAFER program helps to meet the staffing needs of fire departments by providing funding to hire and retain firefighters. Many fire departments in New Hampshire and across the country are short of staff, and the SAFER program helps many to better protect their communities from harm.
