A member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee and the daughter of a WWII veteran, Kuster has long fought for the rights of American veterans, and for better access to medical services and benefits. Our veterans made extreme personal sacrifices to serve and protect our nation, and we must make sure their needs are met when they return home, said Congresswoman Annie Kuster. From ensuring they can receive the training they need to successfully transition back to civilian life, to providing top-notch mental health services for those dealing with the after-effects of the stressors of service, to memorializing our fallen heroes of 9/11, these bills honor the service-men and women of this country. I was proud to push for passage of these bills, and Im proud of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for coming together to approve these bills on the House floor. The three bills cosponsored by Kuster that passed last night will improve services for veterans in a number of ways. H.R. 2360, the Career Ready Student Veterans Act, will help ensure that educational and training programs serving our nations veterans meet state accreditation standards, protecting the quality of education provided for veteran students. H.R. 2915, the Female Veteran Suicide Prevention Act, will direct the VA to identify suicide prevention programs that are proven to be most effective for female veterans in order to ensure the unique needs of women veterans are more effectively addressed. H.R. 3036, the National 9/11 Memorial at the World Trade Center Act, will designate the September 11th Memorial at the World Trade Center as a national memorial, thereby awarding a grant of up to $25 million per fiscal year for the maintenance of the site. Congresswoman Kuster has served on the U.S. House Veterans Affairs Committee since taking office in 2013. As a result of her leadership on veterans issues, last year Kuster was selected to serve as the Ranking Member of the Veterans Affairs Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee, where she pushes for increased transparency at the VA and access to health care and services for veterans across the country.
