Last week, Kuster joined colleagues from both parties in helping to pass legislation to extend transportation funding until mid-December. In New Hampshire and around the country, important projects could be threatened if Congress fails to pass legislation to preserve federal transportation funding. Across the Granite State, our transportation infrastructure is critical to improve safety for drivers and boost efficiency for businesses. Construction crews are hard at work fixing our roads and bridges, and we must ensure these projects can continue throughout the busy summer construction months, said Congresswoman Annie Kuster. I call on my colleagues in the Senate to pass a bill to extend funding through at least the end of the year, and to continue working on a long-term transportation bill that will provide certainty for these important projects and the workers who depend on them. In 2012, Congress passed the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21) Act to fund our countrys surface transportation network for two years, and it has since been extended one year beyond its original 2014 expiration. MAP-21 is set to expire at the end of July, which means funding for the federal Highway Trust Fund and projects around the country could run out of money right in the middle of summer, our countrys busiest construction season. The house-passed bill would extend funding until mid-December. While Kuster supports this legislation in order to protect Granite State transportation projects that rely on this funding, she has long called for long-term, multi-year legislation to provide better certainty for local transportation planners and to better protect transportation jobs across the district. Congresswoman Kuster has continuously advocated for increased federal investment in New Hampshires transportation infrastructure since taking office. She has proposed legislative solutions for increasing cost-savings at the federal level in order to replenish the Trust Fund in years past and she has toured the Route 4 Bridge project in West Lebanon, the Broad Street Parkway project in Nashua, the I-93 construction projectin Windham, and theRoute 10 bridge replacement projectin Winchester to highlight the urgent need to pass responsible, long-term funding legislation to support these projects.
